Educators of Color (EOC)
Educators of Color or EOC is a student organization to promote diversity and inclusion in education. This organization emphasizes the importance and value of diverse educators and applying culturally diverse education to future educators. In our meetings, we will explore instructional methods for teaching ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse students and provide resources and support for future educators of color. Anyone is welcome to our organization. We want to help all future educators broaden their perspectives on multicultural teaching and how that is implemented in the classroom.
Our discussions include the Virginia Education Association’s mission to “empower with actionable insights, ready to champion diverse avenues for advocating on behalf of students and educators, as we collectively strive to reimagine a more inclusive and effective public education system for all” (Virginia Education Association, 2024) Some of our topics involve topics for inclusive education, multicultural literature, and diverse learning materials, and building relationship with families of diverse cultural backgrounds. The majority of our discussions involve topics from the VEA’s Educators of Color summit and will implement knowledge and strategies from COE coursework. Our goal is to invite guest speakers such as COE professors and current and experienced educators.
The goal of EOC is to support future educators of color and educate all future educators on teaching linguistically and culturally diverse students. We aim to empower and support new educators!
