Call Me MiSTER Commitment

The mission of Call Me MiSTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader range of communities and educational backgrounds in Virginia’s K-12 teacher workforce. Call Me MiSTER (CMM) prepares participants for impactful careers as elementary, middle, or high school teachers through the provision of resources and support to successfully persist them through the process of navigating college.

To participate as a MiSTER, students are expected to:

· Participate in Summer Bridge/Leadership Institute and Monthly Seminars.

· Familiarize with and use university support services (e.g. Writing and Speaking Center, Digital Knowledge Center, etc.).

· Participate in regular 1-on-1 academic coaching meetings with Call Me MiSTER Director and College of Education faculty/ staff.

· Participate in outreach such as alumni relation events, community/ campus/ school district events, and admissions events.

· Collaborate with College of Education faculty and staff to attend a minimum number of teacher preparation events, meet with faculty to ensure licensure requirements are being met, participate in test preparation for licensure testing.
