Post Baccalaureate Pathways

The Master of Education Post Baccalaureate Initial Teacher Licensure Pathways are designed for adults who have earned a bachelor’s degree and want to obtain teaching credentials. This program is designed to meet the needs of adult learners, with courses offered in the evenings and/or offered in a blended or online format. The program of study combines course work and field experiences to prepare candidates for teacher licensure.

M.Ed., Post Baccalaureate Pathways

  • Elementary Education (PreK-6)
  • Special Education General Curriculum (Grades K-12)
  • Special Education Adapted Curriculum (Grades K-12)
  • Secondary Education (Grades 6-12)
  • PreK-12 Education (Grades PreK-12)
  • Middle Grades Education (Grades 6-8)
  • English as a Second Language (Grades PreK-12)

Admissions filing dates for the M.Ed. Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure Pathways:

  • Fall session: April 15
  • Spring session: September 15
  • Summer session: February 15

Late applications will be accepted on a space available basis. Please contact the Office of Admissions at (540) 286-8030 for clarification.

Application Checklist                

  • Application for Admission and a non-refundable $50 application fee; Apply Online and have your  $50 Application Fee Waived! 
  • An undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • An official transcript from every college or university you’ve attended even if the courses were transferred to another institution

Selection Criteria
The admission process recognizes candidates with distinguished achievements in one or more of the admissions criteria or on the strength and balance of their records in all areas. A wide range of criteria is considered including: academic background; experience with children and adolescents; goals statement; commitment to teaching; personal qualities; life and work experiences; ability to teach in the endorsement area sought; performance on traditional course work.  Applicants must be within fifteen credits (5 Courses) of completing their undergraduate  endorsement requirements  before they are considered admissible.  ESL and Special Education applicants will complete their endorsement courses as part of their graduate program at UMW and therefore have no undergraduate endorsement requirements.
