About
This program prepares students to meet the requirements for teacher licensure in grades PreK-6 along with the additional coursework for an add-on endorsement in Special Education. Completion of this program results in a B.S. in Education. This program is not offered as a BLS degree.
Major
Students will major in Elementary Education.
Timeline
Students should begin education coursework during the second semester of their first year. Transfer students will be individually advised to adjust timeline as needed. Students will be able to complete all licensure requirements within the undergraduate degree.
Clinical Experiences
While enrolled in the education program, students will complete multiple practicum experiences that are integrated with education courses along with additional teaching labs. These practicum placements are designed to give students experiences in a variety of schools working with diverse student populations.
During students’ final semester, they will enroll in a semester-long internship. Students are in the classroom full time with a mentor teacher and are assigned a University supervisor from the UMW faculty.
