COE Makerspace
The College of Education Makerspace, located in Seacobeck Hall, is a collaborative environment designed to foster creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning, tailored specifically for future educators and students in related fields. This makerspace offers no-tech, low-tech, and high-tech options, making it accessible and versatile for a wide range of educational activities and projects.

Fall 2024 Operating Hours for College of Education Students and Faculty
- Monday: 9 am – 12 pm, 2 – 3 pm, 4 – 6 pm
- Tuesday: 9 am – 5 pm
- Wednesday: 10 am – 12 pm, 2 – 3 pm, 4 – 6 pm
- Thursday: 9 am – 5 pm
No-Tech Zone
In this area, students and faculty engage in projects using basic tools and materials that don’t require power or digital resources. It includes:
- Arts and crafts supplies (paper, markers, glue, scissors, cardboard)
- Wooden blocks, Legos, and other materials for building and spatial reasoning.
- A collection of clean, reusable materials (bottles, cardboard tubes, fabric scraps) to encourage eco-friendly making and creativity.
Low-Tech Zone
This section provides access to basic equipment and simple technologies that bridge traditional teaching methods with hands-on activities. It includes:
- Sewing machines and fabric for creating textiles and manipulatives
- Laminators and binding machines for creating classroom materials
- Simple electronics kits (circuits, batteries, motors) for educational demonstrations
High-Tech Zone
Here, advanced digital tools are available to explore cutting-edge educational technologies. It includes:
- 3D printers and laser cutters (Glowforge) for creating prototypes, models, and classroom tools
- Computers with educational software and design programs (CAD, Tinkercad)
- Robotics kits and coding platforms for teaching STEM subjects
- Virtual reality (VR) stations for immersive learning experiences

If you are a school, non-profit, or an educator and would like to bring a group to UMW to hold an STREAM event or field trip, we are interested in working with you. Your event can include students, educators, or the broader community. To get started, please review the Field Trip Information and Calendar. We are booking for Fall 2024 at this time.
