Two UMW/COE Scholarships – DEADLINE 8/22/16

We have two significant scholarships due soon. They are open to ONLY  5-year or Post-Baccalaureate students who will be doing their Internship this coming Academic Year 2016-2017. The deadline for applications for both of these scholarships is Monday, August 22 at 10:00 am by email to Dean Nina at   Students who have an interest and are eligible may apply for both scholarships. UKROP FELLOWSHIP: The Ukrop Fellows Initiative provides financial support to initial licensure candidates (Post-baccalaureate and 5th Year Pathway M.Ed. and M.S. programs) who are completing their final year of preparation including their full-time internship semester, and who are committed to developing their teaching careers in the Richmond City Schools.  Each fellowship provides financial support up to $9000 per Fellow for tuition, fees and related expenses to complete their practica and internship in the Richmond City Schools.  Specific school/mentor assignments will be made through the … [Read more...]

UMW Launches Virginia Teacher Scholarship


November 3, 2015 by Erika Spivey The University of Mary Washington has launched a UMW Virginia Teacher Scholarship for Graduate Education Programs. The scholarship, which covers 15 percent of tuition, is available for Virginia residents who are educators working in a public or non-public PreK-12 school located in Virginia. Applications for the scholarship are being accepted for the spring 2016 term. “The College of Education places more than 500 students a year in area classrooms as part of the program’s teacher preparation and training,” said Nina Mikhalevsky, interim dean of UMW’s College of Education.  “This scholarship is an important step in furthering UMW’s on-going partnership with local school districts.” UMW offers a Master of Education for Professional Development with endorsements in gift education, diverse student populations, educational leadership, literacy specialist, special education general curriculum and adapted curriculum, secondary mathematics and … [Read more...]

Accepting Spring 2016 Applications

 The College of Education is now accepting applications for Spring 2016. Please note: We do take applications after the deadline, as course space is available. If you took a qualifying exam and don’t have your scores yet, still turn in your application. We need an official copy of your passing scores before you can be admitted. Please indicate this on your application. If you are enrolling as an undergraduate in one of the 5-year programs, consider attending an optional Group Information Session.  There is a session scheduled for October 29th at 5:00PM in Trinkle Room 210. These important sessions provide information about our programs and guidance with the application process.
