The College of Education was created in summer 2010, joining the College of Business and College of Arts and Sciences in fulfilling UMW’s mission of providing rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs.

The undergraduate initial licensure pathways include a B.S.Ed. in elementary education with a major in education and programs in secondary, PreK-12, or special education.

The College of Education offers six Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs for adults who have earned a bachelor’s degree (i.e., you are post baccalaureate), may have some professional work experience, and want to obtain teaching credentials. This program is designed to meet the needs of adult learners, with courses offered in the evenings and/or offered in a blended or online format. The program of study combines course work and field experiences to prepare candidates for teacher licensure.

Clinical Experiences
While enrolled in the education program, you’ll complete multiple practicum experiences that are integrated with education courses and additional teaching labs. These placements give you experiences in a variety of schools, working with diverse student populations. During your final semester, you’ll enroll in a full-time internship. You’ll be in the classroom with a mentor teacher, and you’ll have a supervisor from the UMW faculty.
